Volcano erupting
This week, TOPLA offers you an AWESOME science activity!
We invite you to build a monstrous volcano that will spit lava in abundance. Are you ready to become the new Master of Volcanoes?
Become inexhaustible on the different types of volcanoes, and improvise as a volcanologist!
Material :
- To make the salt dough: 1 glass of salt, 1 glass of lukewarm water, 2 glasses of flour
- To make the volcano: thick sheets of Canson paper, paint, 1 paintbrush, cardboard, 1 empty jam jar, scotch tape
- To make the magma: sodium bicarbonate, dishwashing liquid, vinegar
Step 1
Let's go make the salt dough! Put the salt, hot water and flour in a container. You can add cocoa to give the base of your volcano a nice brown color that looks more "real". Mix everything together and let your dough rest.
Step 2
Start by sticking two large thick sheets of Canson paper together. They will form the base of your volcano! You can already paint the base green to give a "natural" look to the environment of your volcano.
Step 3
Take your empty jam jar (or just a glass), the bottom of which is like the magma chamber. To give your volcano a nice look, glue pieces of cardboard all around on which the salt dough will rest.
Now, place the base of your volcano on the green painted base.
Step 4
Cover your base with salt dough. There you have it! It already looks like a volcano! But let's make it look even more real...
Decorate your volcano! Start by painting it gray. We didn't paint it completely, in order to give it a more rocky look.
You can collect small stones, leaves, moss in your garden or in a forest to beautify it!
Step 5
First, pour the baking soda and dishwashing liquid into the volcano. Then, you can pour the vinegar… and admire the show!
What a magnificent eruption!
