When the Memo challenges equality!
The Equality Memo
Remember a few years ago when you dreamed of being a lawyer, a dancer, a veterinarian, a doctor, a footballer, a hairdresser... Life just repeats itself, and every day, children make us think of what we were before. In the end, who can boast today of doing the job they always dreamed of? And what if, all things considered, today's children dreamed bigger? What if we gave them the ability to see further? Would they still want to do the same jobs?
Why didn't you dream of being an astronaut, a football player , a dancer , a hairdresser ? Why is it that as a girl or a boy, you didn't allow yourself to want to do certain jobs?
We asked those most concerned to show us what they think 👶
As we can see, when it comes to being themselves , a child has no barriers. They are influenced by their environment. If we provide them with tools to enable them to dream big, we are helping to lower these barriers .
To put it simply : " I am an 8-year-old child, I want to be a hairdresser but I am told that hairdresser is a job for women. So I think it is a woman's job. Do I dream of becoming a hairdresser? Yes. Would I become a hairdresser? No, I am a boy and it is for girls ."
All these words are not conscious of course, but it is a simplified version of what a child can say to himself... And there you say to yourself " But how do we prevent them from thinking that? How can I, on my scale, participate in educating them for equality? "
Bingo , you're asking the right question. That's what we asked ourselves too. The idea is to include tools in the child's environment that allow him to realize for himself that he can do what he wants. And what do children love? Play !
Play is an essential step in a child's development . Both psychologically and motorically . It is also thanks to his toys that he will build himself. He will learn and understand, and if we slip equality into it... all the conditions are met for him to understand and integrate this notion.
And Bingo (again), the Equality Memo is born... 🙌
The Moon Project has done it! 24 pairs of professions to allow children to imagine themselves as a policewoman, hairdresser, gardener, nurse... A nice game to aim for the moon and change the face of the world 🌍
