World Bee Day: Why and how to protect it?

May 20 marks World Bee Day, a vital initiative to raise awareness of the importance of bees in our ecosystem and promote conservation actions.

Bees play a crucial role in pollinating plants, ensuring the reproduction of many plant species and food production. Without them, biodiversity and our food supply would be seriously threatened. Preserving bees also means preserving the health of our planet.

What threats to pollinators?

Pollinators, especially bees, are threatened by:

  • Habitat loss : Urbanization and intensive agriculture are destroying their nesting and feeding areas.
  • Pesticides : Neonicotinoids and other pesticides are harmful and contribute to their decline.
  • Climate change : It disrupts flowering cycles and weather conditions, impacting bees' food resources.
  • Diseases and parasites : They weaken bee populations.

How to protect bees

For World Bee Day, here are some simple actions to put in place:

  • Plant honey-producing flowers : Lavender, sunflower, clover or rosemary attract bees.
  • Install bee hotels : Provide them with safe nesting places with bee hotels.
  • Use bee-friendly products : Ban pesticides and herbicides, and leave fallow areas.
  • Support local beekeepers : Buy their products to support biodiversity.

World Bee Day is an opportunity to highlight the importance of these pollinators for our survival and that of our planet. Every action counts to protect them.

At TOPLA, we have been committed to eco-responsibility for several years to produce our games with less impact on the environment.
