Why read stories to children?
Why is reading stories to your children important?
You remember perfectly the multi-colored drawings of this book that your father comes to read to you before going to bed. You still know by heart the adventures of some incredible characters who marked your childhood.
It has been recognized that reading bedtime stories to your little geniuses helps them in their personal development in multiple ways.
Teaching your child to read
The Educational Success Information Network, RIRE (yes, that's a good one) published a study according to which parent/child reading plays a big role in the learning of the youngest. It helps give the child a taste for reading , while allowing him to know and understand stories that he would not be able to discover alone due to their difficulty or length. Thanks to this type of reading, children acquire a larger vocabulary and are more able to learn at school .
Teaching your child to grow
The child learns to know himself. His stories bring out different emotions in him that allow him to better understand his tastes, and to identify with a character. It is known that children's stories help reduce fears, which is why fairy tales are often full of life's hard trials (death, illness, arguments) so that the child can internalize and tame his fears. The fact that the parent reads the story also allows him to be there to answer the questions and anxieties that his child would then have.
Teaching your child to love themselves
The “bed time story” is also a special moment between you and your child in which you give him a moment of your day and therefore importance. Here are some ideas to develop your little one’s confidence:
> Teach him to express himself better by playing one of the characters in the story or by reading the dialogue with you.
> Exercise his memory and imagination by cutting your stories into mini-serials and asking him each evening to give you a summary of the previous day.
Learning by doing and expressing yourself is the whole philosophy of TOPLA .
