Readings for girls and boys!
In books, girls are princesses and boys are knights. The story is familiar, it's always the same: the princess is waiting to be freed by a brave knight. But what if girls also wanted to be knights? What if boys wanted to feel protected for once?
Children's judgment is partly shaped by the stories they are told, and this from a very young age. Unfortunately, we come across too few stories where the gender of the protagonist does not define his role.
We have found some blogs, books and magazines that can help fill this gap and open our minds, for our greatest pleasure!
- At Zebrabook editions: personalized and stereotype-free books (stories personalized according to the child's first name, but not gender-specific stories!)
- Published by Talents Hauts : "Books that challenge preconceived ideas" for ages 2 to 13 and up
- La Courte Échelle Bookstore, in Rennes: a bookstore that emphasizes readings that open the mind to diversity and reflection on social issues
- The Tout à L'égo blog: advice for gender-neutral magazines for ages 6 and up
- Biscoto Newspaper: Monthly magazine for children that aims to eliminate stereotypes
- The Face de Citrouille blog, which lists youth readings with a feminist feel
- Georges magazine for 7-12 year olds: a creative magazine, aimed at both girls and boys, and all without advertising!
Happy reading!
