The man who wanted everyone to have a chance
Providing children from disadvantaged backgrounds with access to quality education, games and educational tools is Arvind Gupta's mission.
.
You may not know his name, but this science expert (and talented inventor!) has been developing educational kits with next to nothing for over 30 years.
.
Arvind Gupta was born in India. He studied at the Indian Institute of Technology. During a gap year, he met Anil Sadgopal, an education specialist and founder of the NGO Kishore Bharati, which teaches science to children who do not have access to properly equipped laboratories. The NGO offers programs designed using everyday objects: batteries, electrical wires, light bulbs, etc. For Arvind Gupta, it was a turning point. He then started making scientific toys with what he found in his daily life, objects that are sometimes even considered waste. Since then, he has been sending his toys to schools across the country.
.
.
In addition to making these scientific and citizen toys, he has published numerous texts and books . His first book, “Matchsticks Models and other Science Experiments,” has been translated into 12 different Indian languages and has sold over half a million copies . He has also translated over 155 of his texts from English into Hindi, the most widely spoken language in India. For his work, he has won several national and international awards, including the Padma Shri , the fourth highest civilian honorary order awarded by the Indian government. This order recognizes individuals who have distinguished themselves in various fields, including the arts, industry, education, and literature.
.
Above all, it allowed children without resources to receive a real scientific education.
